Before you unpack packed food..!

Packaged Food

There are so many things come under the roof. E.g Sauces, chips, noodles, ready pickles,

Just make a list of yours and try to evaluate how many ready packets you buy with your grocery.

Read the ingredients given backside and you will get the answers for life style induced disorders like obesity, cancer , IBS gastritis PCOD, diabetes, hypertension.

There are preservatives, emulsifiers, additives, artificial flavors sometimes colorants also.

As we all have learnt not to consume salt more than 0.5 milligrams and that we get through our meals. But through packaged food we consume more than that.

Let's see a packet of chips how many potatoes are there in small packet , there might be a small potato along with that there are many other ingredients as I said above, though they are safe as per the authority standards but...they are synthetic, & we are consuming it. Also we are giving it to the children.

In our childhood or our parents childhood those things where not their grandparents ke era mein to Sawal hi Nahin..! Hence they were fit and fine. What about us? answer we all know.

If this goes on, the children will face same issues earlier.

I can understand all these stuffs are so tempting due to taste and attractive packaging. Rather the product is designed so well that the people must be attracted towards it. Especially children.

Here our wisdom truly matters!

Instead of all such packaged food we can have homemade snacks. For example potato, we can have local traditional recipe tried at home various kind of papad like potato, moong, millets are better than these packaged stuffs even those banana chips we get at our local market are also better.

Important is "eat local think global".

Moreover purchasing from local vendors will be helpful to grow small businesses.

Now just give a try make a list of "packaged food" like noodles, sauces, chips, biscuits, cookies, cakes, cookies , how many things do you purchase in your grocery, try to cut off some stuffs, initially it may take time and efforts to reduce whole things, gradually you can cut off them from your grocery list.

In Bharat we are really having diversity in living & eating habits. We Can have our own snacks prepared at home. Traditionally we have so many options for them.

Some of them I'm giving below.

You can opt for many of them.

Let me know in comment section what others we can prepare and what already you are consuming.

Ready pickles : Homemade pickles

Butter/Spreads/Mayonaise/Sauces : Homemade chutneys like tamarind-dates chutney, Pudina-coriander chutney, coconut chutney, peanut chutney, seasonal fruits homemade jams like homemade pomegranate jam, mago jam, homemade murambas. Homemade pickles like raw mango, amla can also be used for such spreads.

Ready soups : There is no need to get ready pack of soups as we get fresh veggies at the market & they are easy to prepare. We can prepare various cereals soup also.

Chips / kurkure : Homemade papad, wafers, chivda

To get that spicy, tangy taste : I won't recommend to get that spicy, salty, tangy taste to consume in higher dose as being delicioius they have their own properties of positive & negative shades. Excess is always harmful. But for small quantity spices you can use black pepper, clove, cinnamon, powder rosted cumin seeds & coriander seeds, dry ginger powder, rock salt, dry mango powder, tamarind pulp, tomato chutney, powder of pomegranate dry seeds.

Combination your favourite ingredients among these will give a tastier & healthier version of your favorite food prepared at home with love.

One more thing can be done for children if they demand something from outside get them involved like " let us make it at home" & give them small tasks to complete so they will be engaged doing things & can get pleasure of doing self.
